Election day.

It’s election day. I don’t care. The USA too far away. My own struggle way too real.

I have a look at the news twice that day. Nothing decided yet. He is still there.

The next day. I am at a friends flat. He is watching CNN continuously since the day before. A tradition for many elections. I still don’t care. Even if I know that it is from utmost urgency to get that retard away.

In the following days I watched CNN more often to keep up to date. Somehow I felt more of a social responsibility to do that after the meeting with my friend. At least some good influence 😊

The news pop up on my mobile. In the same second I switch on CNN. It’s done. The people of the United States of America will have a new president by January. Congratulations. A global relief was noticeable.

After a while Van Jones, a CNN news commentator, was asked about his thoughts at that moment. He answered in detail and started to cry. Directly in front of the cam and millions of people.

My first reaction was like oh that is Hollywood! That are the United States. Always a little over it.

Then I started to listen to his words. I felt ashamed about my initial reaction. I as a white European male can not even feel five percent of what people of color go through on a daily basis. I just can try to imagine. Even this hurts a lot.

Hopefully this election shows up to be a turning point in thinking. Not only for the USA but us all.

  1. I LOVE hearing your thoughts Julia and I’m a little like you with the news as I do my part and yet there is nothing I can do after that with the outcome. The biggest thing for me was not to hear horrible dispicable autrosities anymore by a bigoted rude person so I sighed a big releif for our country. We were sitting on the couch when we listened to the speeches so uplifting with renewewed hope and the audience was crying and my husband a Caucasian male said „I just don’t get why people cry“ he looked at me and my son’s Mexican girlfriend as we cried for hope and equality and said „Oh, I’m sorry“. My son piped up and said „Dad, you cried at the World Series“. Lol. None of us could imagaine that! 🤣🤣🤣! It’s a good day for America and our world and to watch everyone of all colors on the stage celebrating was so heartwarming!! ❤️👏👏👏👏

    1. Good morning, Cindy! I’m not Julian, I’m Valentin – stopping by because WordPress put your wonderful comment into „spam“ first and I don’t know why this keeps happening?! 🙄

Sorry about that. And, yes, it’s such a relief that Kamala Harris and Joe Biden won the election. It’s a big thing here in Germany as well, and I’m a person of colour, so imagine my happiness about the positive outcome- 🙂

All the best for you and your family! Btw, I love following your adventures, too! VVN 🌸🌸🌸

    3. I’m glad Biden won. But I feel that we are a Nation divided against itself reminiscent of Germany in the 20s and 30s. And the COVID-19 pandemic has made it worse.

I fear that Trump will not concede and his recent actions and firings are a sign of troubling times to come!

      Just my opinion!

      1. The most exciting part of this election is still to come. Like you said. I wonder if foreign politics have any power to intervene at some point. In case Trump stays that stubborn stupid boy.

If you look at Europe there are a couple of countries divided. Germany too. Must feel smiliar.

There is a German series about the 20s in Berlin. It is called Babylon Berlin. I do not know if it is available in english. May have a look for it.
To me this series shows how all the mess has developed leading to the dark years. I def recognised a lot of similarities compared to our time now. Hopefully we have learnt from history. Otherwise it will get even worse.

  2. Oh I never watched television for the entire day. I’m sorry I missed the events of the day.
Without being facetious, Hollywood is a product of America. Besides the world is there stage, to express their emotions in all and every way. I dont get to know amy other nation on this large scale other than the USA.

  3. Hopefully this is the start of something better. Of course, a change in president is not a magic wand, but it is something. I am fascinated by how many are partying and celebrating this victory, and the global relief. Is it that bad? Haha.
